The historical country of origin for the apricot tree is widely debated. Some say Armenia- where they are still actively cultivated today, others say China, and still others say India, as seeds found there date back thousands of years BC. While we may not know exactly where the beautiful little orange fruit came from, we do know they have wonderful health benefits. They are full of beta-carotene, which is very important in maintaining heart health and helps maintain eye health. The riper they are, the more their anti-oxidant levels are developed. Did I mention they are related to the plum and are DELICIOUS?! Apricots have a full-bodied taste, a balance between sweet and slightly tart. In the United States, apricots are generally fresh and available May-August. Outside of that time frame, apricots are likely sourced from New Zealand or South America.
